Here is a copy of the letter sent out to all parents and carers:
10 June 2019
Dear parent/ carer,
It has been a busy start to the summer term at Olive AP Academy – Suffolk and I wanted to share news with our community about the plans we have for the academy.
As many of you already know, the academy is now housed on one single site – with all our staff and students (KS2 to KS4) now based in Stowmarket. This move has allowed us to develop and improve the resources and facilities available for all our pupils. I am pleased to announce that refurbishment and improvement works of the Stowmarket site were successfully completed at the end of May.
We are an inclusive community and our aim is to ensure that we can best meet the needs of every child and young person we support. The academy has expanded in recent months and during this period of growth, Olive Academies is committed to providing the extra resources needed to ensure high quality learning opportunities for all.
I will be taking on the role of Executive Headteacher from the start of June 2019 and will be working alongside the academy’s highly skilled headteacher, Helen Fortes. Working together we aim to further develop and deliver a creative curriculum for our pupils based on expeditionary learning. Our new East Building in Stowmarket will now allow us to offer more vocational training courses for our KS3 and KS4 pupils. We are also looking forward to the delivery of a new academy minibus in the autumn which will allow all of our students to access more activities off-site, take part in outdoor learning projects and go on more trips to support their learning programmes.
As Executive Headteacher at Olive AP Academy – Suffolk I look forward to working closely with all members of the academy community. I have worked in education for 30 years; my career began as a headteacher before going on to specialise in leading and improving alternative provision schools and pupil referral units. I have worked as an Ofsted inspector and was a founding trustee of the PSHE Association. I have led Olive Academies since its inception in 2013 and am driven by the belief that every child and young person has the ability and the right to learn and achieve.
Helen Fortes and I would also like to announce that we are setting up a new Olive AP Academy – Suffolk Parents’ and Carers’ Forum. We would like to invite parents/ carers to get involved, join the forum and meet with Helen and I each term. We want to hear from
parents and carers, get their feedback on new initiatives and programmes we are developing in the academy and respond promptly to any concerns you may have. We want to work in partnership with the academy community and recognise that the forum will play an essential part in our efforts to ensure that Olive Academies continues to provide the best possible support to local children and young people.
The academy always welcomes visits from parents/ carers, our partners and friends in the local community. Please do contact the academy office if you would like to arrange a tour of our fantastic new facilities – or if you would like to make an appointment to meet and chat with Helen or me.
It is an exciting time for Olive AP Academy – Suffolk and I will keep you updated over the coming months, as our academy plans continue to develop. We are ambitious about what our academy, staff and pupils can go on to achieve.
